Chess Curriculum

In the summer of 2017 the Saint Louis Chess Club Scholastics Team recognized the need for a comprehensive, beginning curriculum for use by its Instructors. Developed throughout the 2017-18 school year in partnership with Maurice Ashley and a team of educational experts, the curriculum covers the first 3-4 semesters of classroom chess instruction. The curriculum aligns with the Saint Louis Chess Club Instructional Standards and, following a piloting and feedback interval, were rolled out for the 2018-19 school year.

The Chess Club is also pleased to post for distribution a curriculum graciously provided by Grandmaster Yasser Seirawan. Both the Saint Louis Chess Club Curriculum and Grandmaster Seirawan’s curriculum are designed to be used by chess instructors at all developmental levels.

As a supplement to our curriculum, the Saint Louis Chess Club also provides free access to Read & Write Chess, a beginner's guide to learn how to read and write chess notation.
