At the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis we strive to provide students, teachers, parents, and school administrators with the resources they need to develop or improve their scholastic chess endeavors. Here you will find information about our in-school chess curriculum, as well as opportunities for after-school chess programs. It is our goal to promote the expansion of scholastic chess through our programs and offerings in order to academically challenge youth in a fun and engaging manner, enabling them to do better in the classroom and participate more fully in afterschool and community events. Students shine at National Youth Action tourney

SAINT LOUIS -- The Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis further established itself as the elite chess club in the country at the 2009 National Youth Action tournament held in Oakbrook, Ill., last weekend.

Students Kevin Cao, Jialin Ding, Isaiah Gadson, William Tong and William Nesham represented the CCSCSL in the K-9 division and finished with a combined score of 29 points out of a possible 36, easily securing first place.

SAINT LOUIS CHESS CLUB TO HOST ALL-GIRL CHESS CAMP FROM AUG. 11-15

ST. LOUIS, August 5, 2009  --  The Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis, site of the 2009 U.S. Chess Championship last May and the upcoming U.S. Women's Chess Championship in October, will host the 10th United States Chess School from August 11 through 15 at its world-class facility at 4657 Maryland Avenue in the Central West End.

Brad Schlosser will Serve as the MO Representative for the 2009 Arnold Denker Tournament of High School Champions

 Brad Schlosser, of Chesterfield, Mo., will represent Missouri at the 2009 Arnold Denker Tournament of High School Champions.

The national tournament will run from Aug. 1 to Aug. 4 in conjunction with the U.S. Open in Indianapolis, Ind.

Brad, a student at Parkway Central High School, earned his invitation to the prestigious tournament by winning the Denker Playoff with a score of 3.5 out of 4 in March. 

Students Play Chess in the Championship Venue

Students from two St. Louis schools that utilize the "Classroom Chess" curriculum developed by the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis experienced the thrill of playing chess at the same tables in the same room where the 2009 U.S. Chess Championship was contested.  The games were played on the off day of the nine-round tournament.

 The Chess Club and Scholastic Center is always working to promote scholastic chess as an educational tool. In an effort to greater understand curricular chess, it is good to look to current examples as to what chess can be in an educational setting. This month, we'll take a quick look at Chess in the Schools, the New York City based organization that brings chess to thousands of students each year.

Our In-School Purpose and Mission

It is the purpose and mission of the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis (CCSCSL) to challenge students academically by creating a dynamic and carefully measured curricular model for classroom use. When implemented over a period of time by our valued school partners, we are seeking to definitively prove chess can improve the academic performance of our 4th through 8th grade students.
