The CCSCSL Invitational wrapped up Friday night with a lot of exciting games. I was wondering two things went I went to sleep Thursday: Would GM Georgi Kacheishvili continue his blistering pace? And would IM Angelo Young be able to tighten up and avoid a clean sweep?

The CCSCSL Invitational: Day 2 Recap

The grandmasters showed their strength in day two, as GMs Giorgi Kacheishvili and Andre Diamant won both games Wednesday. Diamant stands alone at 3-0 and Kacheishvili has 2.5-0.5.

A Novice November

A total of 30 students came out for the kid's section of the Unrated Beginner Tournament. Congratulations to all of the participants!

The CCSCSL Invitational GM Norm tournament began with Executive Director Tony Rich answering a question about the draw rules. Many tournament organizers nowadays, especially those overseeing GM round-robins, are worried about the number of draws, specifically the number of short “GM draws.”

Thanksgiving Open, GM Norm Tourney in Saint Louis


SAINT LOUIS, November 25, 2011 -- Chess players across the country will be gathering in Saint Louis this week to give thanks for tournament chess. The Thanksgiving Open, scheduled to be held November 25-27 at the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis, features a prize fund of $10,050, and 10 titled players have already signed up to compete:
